Most Common Female Fertility Myths
Myth 1: Infertility is caused due to females only
Fact: Infertility is caused by men and women equally, with male factors contributing to 40-50% of cases. For a couple to successfully conceive a healthy pregnancy, both the male as well as female partners need to be fertile, means should have normal reproductive functioning. If either of the partners is having abnormal parameters, it may lead to infertility. Moreover, male fertility is also quite common and contributes to a large number of cases of infertility.
Myth 2: You cannot get pregnant after 35
Fact: Fertility definitely starts to decline after 35 but many women do conceive in their late 30s and early 40s.
Myth 3: Birth control pills can cause permanent infertility in women
Fact: Hormonal birth control pills definitely do not affect long term fertility.In some women it may take 1-2 cycles to resume fertility but in a few it may also increase chances of conception.
Myth 4: Females can get pregnant on any day of the month
Fact: In females there is a short conception or fertility window of about 5-6 days around the event of ovulation
Myth 5: Being in stress can cause infertility
Fact: Although elevated stress can affect hormone levels and cause delay in conception but it is very rarely the only reason for the same
Myth 6: Woman in good health can get pregnant at any age
Fact: nothing can override biological age-related decline in egg quality although a healthy lifestyle does wonders in increasing chances of conception at any age
Myth 7: If you are a mother then you cannot have fertility issues
Fact: Secondary infertility is pretty common, where couples with first easy conception have long delays in conceiving second child
Myth 8: Elevating legs after intercourse or lying down longer increases chances of conception
Fact: Scienctific evidences do not support any such myths, so it is only right to say that position does not effect chances of getting pregnant.
Myth 9: Fertility Treatments always result in multiples
Fact: There is another common myth that infertility treatment methods like IVF, ICSI, etc. always result in multiple babies. While it was relatively common in the past, these days there is hardly any risk of multiple babies as modern technology allows embryologists to carefully select the embryos before implanting.
Myth 10: Women with advanced age or poor egg quality due to unknown reasons need to go for donor eggs

Myth 12: Fibroid uterus mandates surgery before IVF or other fertility procedures
Fact: Not all fibroids affect chances of success in IVF, often they small and harmless. Some can be resected hysteroscopically leaving only a few women actually requiring a major laparoscopic intervention.
